I got Dan an above the ground fire pit for his birthday one year. Well, it didn't even make it ONE year. Yesterday my creative goal of the day was to make my own fire pit. One hour later it was done, and awesome. Why didn't I just do that to begin with?
I used what was left of the rim of the above fire pit as a border of sorts. Here is how simple it was: I dug a hole (that was pretty easy for me here, but if you were somewhere like Washington state it might take a bit longer to dig through all of those rocks!), I put my fire pit border in (it is creative looking and doesn't have to go into a landfill now) and lined that with lots of big rocks.
We found a beautiful large drift wood log at the beach that makes 2-3 very comfortable seats and our electrician friend donated an old wire spool that makes an awesome wooden table to set your coffee and or wine on. Last step, putting it to use! My Aunt Karen and Uncle Bill came over and it was the perfect setting to enjoy the evening with them! Success!
